Kindergarten Students Learn about 9-11

Brian Jacobs, Captain of Lumberton City Fire Department spoke with Kindergarten students in the classes of Ms. Summer Jackson, Ms. Nancy McCormick, Ms. Sarah Hunt, and Ms. Annette Hunt. Ms. Jackson arranged this visit as an activity to remember September 11, 2001 and teach the students about this day in our nation’s history. Captain Jacobs said that it was actually on 9/11/2001 that he decided that he would pursue a career as a fireman. The students learned about this historical event, fire safety, possible careers in emergency management, and the importance of math and reading in this line of work. This was a true and real life learning experience for our students and we are grateful for Captain Jacobs volunteering his time to speak with our Kindergarten students at Southside-Ashpole.
